The Brad Kaminsky Foundation Accomplishments

Foundation was started in 2000 after Brad Kaminsky's diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme).

  • In 2001, upon Brads passing, the Foundation raised $16,000 as a result of donations made in Brad's memory.
  • In 2001 the Senate of Pennsylvania announced that the week of May 1-May 8, 2001 would be known as "Brain Tumor Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
  • In 2002, the foundation raised $10,000 from the sale of the Cooking Up a Cure cookbook.
  • In 2002, the foundation raised $15,000 from the First Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament.
  • In 2003, the foundation raised $12,000, as a result of the passing of Lisa Lewis Gibson and Robert Carter Jr.(from malignant brain tumors), through donations made in their memory.
  • In 2003, the foundation raised $26,000 from the Second Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament.
  • In 2003, the foundation raised $10,000 from the sale of the Cooking up a Cure, Volume II cookbook.
  • In 2004, the foundation has raised $5,000 to date from the sale of the Cooking up a Cure Volume III cookbook.
  • In April 2004 the foundation hosted the Third Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament on April 17, 2004 at the Lansdowne Golf Resort, raising over $27,000 for research and donating $20,000 that evening to Dr. Gary Archer of Duke's Brain Tumor Center.
  • In 2004 the foundation launched a billboard campaign designed to raise awareness of brain tumors, and funds for brain tumor research, through the promotion of the Cooking up a Cure cookbooks.
  • In 2004 the foundation hosted its first ever Cooking Up a Cure event hosted by The Restaurants at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA to kick off the billboard promotion and raise funds. The event raised $12,000 for research with $10,000 being donated to The University of Pennsylvania Department of Neurosurgery for Brain Tumor Research.
  • Allison Hirschmann, Mrs. Pennsylvania International, 2004 was named our official spokesperson, as her platform is cancer awareness.
  • Philadelphia, Channel 48 show 48 Update, aired an episode on brain tumors on May 22, and July 7, 2004 featuring the foundation president, Lisa Kaminsky-Millar, Mrs. Pennsylvania International 2004, Allison Hirschmann, Paul McKay, president of the North American Brain Tumor Coalition and Dr. Kevin Judy and Staci Oppleman, Patient Care Manager, both of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Department of Neurosurgery.
  • In 2004 the foundation will release its 4th volume of the Cooking Up a Cure Cookbook.
  • The foundation donates all proceeds to brain tumor research.
  • The only expenses that the foundation incurs are for that of accounting fees, supplies (Approximately $5,000 has gone for supplies and fees to date.) and the cost of the cookbook and golf tournament. We maintain approximately $16,000 in our account to cover the cost of events and cookbooks.
  • Cooking up a Cure Cooking Segment promoting the foundation and cookbook aired on Loudoun County's Channel 3 cable television show Artscapes during the week of January 31-Februray 6, 2004
  • The Third Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament was promoted along with the foundation on Loudoun County's Channel 3 cable television show Loudoun Magazine the week of April 1, 2004.
  • In October, 2004, The foundation partnered with a local salon to host its first ever Cut a Thon and raised over $4,000 for brain tumor research.
  • In November, 2004, the foundation released its Fourth cookbook, Cooking up a Cure for Brain Tumors, Volume IV. To date, the cookbook has raised over $7,000.
  • In March, 2005, the foundation participated in the Lord and Taylor, Benefit Bash and raised over $500 for brain tumor research.
  • On April 16, 2005, the foundation hosted its Fourth Annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament at the Lansdowne Resort and Silent Auction and raised over $35,000 of which $25,000 was donated to Duke's Brain Tumor Center that evening.
  • On June 3, 2005, the foundation received $153 from St. Theresa's French Club as part of their curriculum for charities.
  • In November, 2005, the foundation released Cooking up a CURE for brain tumors, Volume V.
  • The Foundation received $600 from the St. Luke's Church of Philadelphia, Pa as a result of hosting the David Bailey Concert on February 10, 2006.
  • On April, 22, 2006, the foundation hosted the Fifth Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament at Lansdowne Resort, and raised over $40,000 for research, donating $30,000 that evening to Duke's Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.
  • On September 30th, 2006, Pediatric Brain Tumor Awareness Day, the foundation hosted a "Lemonade Stand" at Williams Martial Arts and Fitness in Ashburn, VA., to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand-Curing Childhood Cancer, One Cup at A Time. The foundation allowed the stand to be run by children alone, and they raised $500, which was donated to fund research for Pediatric Brain Tumors.
  • On October, 21, 2006, the Anahata Yoga Center in Leesburg, Va hosted a "Living with Cancer" Benefit to benefit the foundation and brain tumor research, raising $2300.
  • In November, 2006, the foundation released it Sixth volume of Cooking up a CURE…..for Brain Tumors which has raised over $4,000 towards research.
  • On November 5th, 2006, the foundation will be the top sponsor for the First Ever Race for Hope in Philadelphia, PA benefiting the Brain Tumor Society and Brain Tumor Research. The Foundation was an integral part in up starting this inaugural event.
  • On April 28, 2007, the foundation hosted the Sixth Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament at Lansdowne Resort, and raised over $40,000 for research, donating $40,000 to Duke's Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.
  • September, 2007, the foundation hosted the second annual "Lemonade Stand" at Rita's in Ashburn, VA, to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand and The Loneliest Road Campaign. The stand was once again ran by children alone, and they raised $1000.
  • On April 26, 2008, the foundation donated $20,000 to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center as a result of the 7th Annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament, Silent Auction and Dinner
  • The Foundation kicked off the Grey Ribbon Crusade and premiered the Heroes of Hope Video
  • To date, the foundation has donated $227,000 to the Duke University Brain Tumor Center strictly for Research, $20,000 to the University of Pennsylvania Department of Neurology, strictly for Brain Tumor Research, $13,500 to the Brain Tumor Society strictly for research for a cure, $5,000 To UCLA, $500 to the Nick Wichman, pediatric brain tumor foundation, $1,000 to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, $2,250 to Johns Hopkins Hospital, $500 to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, $700 to the Healing Brain Trust, strictly for brain tumor research, $1000 Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, $500 to the Loneliest Road Organization for neuroblastoma research, $500 to the Musella Foundation, and $350 to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation, bringing our grand total donated to brain tumor research to $271,300.
  • Numerous Press Releases picked up and featured in Pennsylvania newspapers and Virginia newspapers.
