The Brad Kaminsky Foundation Accomplishments
Foundation was started in 2000 after Brad Kaminsky's diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme).
In 2001, upon Brad's passing, the Foundation raised $16,000 as a result of donations made in Brad's memory; the Senate of Pennsylvania announced that the week of May 1-May 8, 2001 would be known as "Brain Tumor Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
In 2002, the foundation raised $10,000 from the sale of the Cooking Up a Cure cookbook; $15,000 from the First Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament.
In 2003, the foundation raised $12,000, as a result of the passing of Lisa Lewis Gibson and Robert Carter Jr. (from malignant brain tumors), through donations made in their memory; $26,000 from the Second Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament; $10,000 from the sale of the Cooking up a Cure, Volume II cookbook.
In 2004, the foundation raised $5,000 from the sale of the Cooking up a Cure Volume III cookbook; hosted the Third Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament raising over $27,000 for research; launched a billboard campaign to raise awareness of brain tumors and research through the promotion of the Cooking up a Cure cookbooks; hosted its first ever Cooking Up a Cure event hosted by The Restaurants at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA raising $12,000 for research; Allison Hirschmann, Mrs. Pennsylvania International, 2004 was named our official spokesperson, as her platform was cancer awareness; Philadelphia, Channel 48 show 48 Update, aired an episode on brain tumors featuring the foundation president, Lisa Kaminsky-Millar; released 4th volume of the Cooking Up a Cure Cookbook; Cooking up a Cure cooking segment aired on Loudoun County's Channel 3 cable television show Artscapes ; the Third Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament was promoted on the television show Loudoun Magazine; partnered with a local salon to host Cut a Thon raising over $4,000; released 4th cookbook,Cooking up a Cure for Brain Tumors, Volume IV , raising over $7,000.
In 2005, the foundation participated in the Lord and Taylor, Benefit Bash raising over $500; hosted its Fourth Annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament and raised over $35,000; received $153 from St. Theresa's French Club as part of their curriculum for charities; released Cooking up a CURE for brain tumors, Volume V.
In 2006, the Foundation received $600 from the St. Luke's Church of Philadelphia, Pa as a result of hosting the David Bailey Concert ; hosted the Fifth Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament raising over $40,000 for research; hosted a "Lemonade Stand" at Williams Martial Arts and Fitness in Ashburn, VA., to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand-Curing Childhood Cancer, One Cup at A Time raising $500; $2300 from the Anahata Yoga Center "Living with Cancer" benefit ; released 6th volume of Cooking up a CUREā¦..for Brain Tumors raising over $4,000; top sponsor for Race for Hope in Philadelphia, PA.
In 2007, the foundation hosted the Sixth Annual "Heroes of Hope" Golf Tournament , raising over $40,000 for research; hosted the second annual "Lemonade Stand" at Rita's in Ashburn, VA, to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand and The Loneliest Road Campaign raising $1000.
In 2008, the foundation donated $20,000 to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center as a result of the 7th Annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament; introduced the Inaugural Heroes of Hope Race for Research in Los Angeles, raising $17,000 for UCLA Neurosurgery; kicked off the Grey Ribbon Crusade uniting over 212 members including 35 non profit organizations to date and has funded over $100,000 in research grants; and premiered the Heroes of Hope Video featuring Marcus Washington, Linebacker from the Washington Redskins.
To date, the foundation has donated $227,500 to the Duke University Brain Tumor Center strictly for Research, $23,000 to the University of Pennsylvania Department of Neurology, strictly for Brain Tumor Research, $13,500 to the Brain Tumor Society strictly for research for a cure, $22,000 To UCLA, $500 to the Nick Wichman, pediatric brain tumor foundation, $1,000 to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, $2,250 to Johns Hopkins Hospital, $500 to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, $700 to the Healing Brain Trust, strictly for brain tumor research, $1300 to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, $1000 to the Loneliest Road Organization for neuroblastoma research, $500 to the Musella Foundation, and $350 to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation, $300 to Tracy's kids for hospital art programs for kids with cancer, bringing our grand total donated to brain tumor research to over $300,000.
The only expenses that the foundation incurs are for that of accounting fees, supplies, cookbooks and events. We maintain approximately $10,000 in our account to cover the costs of the cookbooks and events.
