Golf at Lansdowne

Set along the banks of the Potomac River in the rolling hills of the Virginia Hunt Country, Lansdowne's magnificent Robert Trent Jones, Jr. 18-hole course blends scenery of awe-inspiring beauty with a keen challenge to delight players of every ability.

Pro Shop: The Lansdowne Golf Shop is located in the resort's main building, overlooking the 18th green. A wide variety of merchandise is available including apparel from Ashworth, Haley, Izod, Cutter & Buck, Greg Norman, and Bobby Jones. For your convenience, Titleist clubs and Footjoy shoes are available for sale or rental.

Hole Number 3 is a par four presenting a large sloping green at the end of a 90-degree dogleg left. The shape lends a foreshortened perspective from the tee. The hole is longer than it looks. A natural rock pond with cascading waterfall covers the pivot point. The most courageous players can attempt to fly the hazard, cutting the distance to the center of the green to just over 25 yards from the blue tee. However, for most players the smart play is a conservative tee shot with a long iron, followed by a wedge into the green. Once on the putting surface, players must still contend with a severe bisecting ridge - from the wrong side, creates one of the most challenging putts on the course.

Hole Number 13 is a classic Lansdowne experience. The 210-yard par three drops over 75 feet from the tee to green. In flight, the ball crosses a natural nesting area, a winding brook, and over 250 years of history - namely, a restored historic hand-stacked rock wall property marker. This area also provides a great opportunity to observe the large variety of wildlife that thrives in and around the course; deer, wild turkey, fox and even the occasional American bald eagle.
